  2. Students will be reinfrom about Civil Rights Movement

  3. Students will hear about its effects on the modern day racial wealth gap

  4. Students will understand the origins of the racial wealth gap

Lesson

  1. Start off with interactive activity- 5 min

    1. Have Student list what race with education level makes the most amount of money

    2. Have students share their answers

    3. Show the graph of actual results

  2. Reinform the class about Civil Rights Movement (“Civil Rights Movement Timeline”) - 3 minutes

    1. Look at MLK contribution

    2. Talk about its start, cause, and end

    3. Look at different court cases and acts passed

  3. Question: Why does the gap still exist after the civil rights movement?

  4. Discuss redlining ; Source:(Weintraub)- 5 minutes

    1. Define redlining

    2. Quotes going into detail about redlining

    3. Insure that the audience understands the basics of redlining

    4. Show a map of what redlining looks like  

  5. Video presentation about redlining - 5. Minutes
