How We Got Here
Hello, my name is Farmer Stubblefield and I am a senior at Wakefield School located in the Plains, Virginia. Growing up, I have always been curious as to why African Americans tend to have less wealth than whites. The disparities in wealth in today's society has always just been accepted, but I wanted to see why it is like that today, even after our improvements in equality as a country. With both of my parents having immigrated here from Liberia, it gave me the opportunity to see these disparities from an outside perspective, as generational oppression hasn't affected me as much, and from the perspective of any African American, as I have gone to the same schools, ate at the same restaurants, and shopped at the same stores. The ability to see the problem from 2 perspectives peaked my interest in the subject, as I have not been caught in the cycle of oppresion an discriminatioon as many other African Americans have. I wanted to do this thesis project so that we all can be more aware of the Racial Wealth Gap, and so we can all be one step closer to ending this cancer in our society
